Day 2: Cimarron, New Mexico...Where the West is Still Wild

Hello, Dear Readers!

Well, it's been a couple of days and I know I promised to update, but sometimes when you stay off the beaten path, you forego the comforts of technology.  In other words, I had no internet!

So to catch up...

John Wesley Hardin, El Paso, TX
Before we hit the road to Cimarron, New Mexico, we went to the Concordia Cemetery to see the gravesite of gunslinger-turned-lawyer, John Wesley Hardin.  After that we hit the road and headed north to New Mexico.

The drive was pretty easy.  We had learned our lesson from the day before and gave Q-Tip both pills and we never heard a peep.  Miles and Ella settled in pretty quickly and slept most of the way.

We arrived in Cimarron, NM and found our Inn.  At first I was worried because there is a lot of the area that looks depressed.  But, the Inn that we stayed in was a little gem!  The room we were given had no A/C...unthinkable, right?  No, it was really comfortable.

St. James Hotel
The reason we picked out this place was because of the St. James Hotel.  This hotel has housed Jesse James, Clay Allison, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Black Jack Ketchum.  It also was a stop for Wyatt and Morgan Earp and their wives when they were on their way to Tombstone. Bat Masterson, Doc Holliday and Pat Garrett are also on the 'Who's Who' who've stayed there as well.  Unfortunately, they don't accept pets so we didn't get to stay there, but they had a restaurant and we went there for dinner that night and breakfast the next morning.  In the bar area you can still see the marks left by these legends...there are bullet holes still in the ceiling! You could also go in the back and if there aren't any guests in the rooms, the doors are left open so you can peek inside.  They were beautiful!

The Bar "Old Saloon"

We got up the next morning and took some time to see a couple of old sites of the town.  There was the old jail...creepy, no lights, very dark.  And the grist mill.  Cimarron may seem to the casual observer like a dumpy, forgotten town, but it is a little jewel with loads of cowboy history and charm.  It is also located on the Santa Fe Trail.

We finally hit the road and the next stop is Glenwood Springs, Colorado!

Thanks for the prayers, y'all...keep 'em coming.  Stay tuned!

Be Blessed-

I know that some of my thoughts may create passionate feelings. I do appreciate passion and I welcome it; however, please do not be rude. These are only my thoughts...
