Day 10: Mile 462...No town, no city...just Mile 462

Lots of road on the Alaskan HWY
Well, Dear Readers...let me say that I thought we had some pretty tedious stretches before, but this one took the cake.  We started out of Dawson City and started counting the miles cause at that point, that's all we had to go by.  Thank goodness for the Milepost!

The Alaskan HWY is rough...there were some white knuckle moments and then there were some maddening moments.  The truckers are brutal...they don't play and they are not patient.  There was a lot of construction and a couple of moments where we had to wait 20-30 minutes in order for the opposing traffic to make their way through.  The highway is not as desolate as I had initially thought.  There are stops every 50-100 miles, but they are little cafes and gas stations (with the pumps that still have the numbers that roll).  Some had lodging, some were closed.  Some parts of the road were pretty good, some were riddled with frost heaves and some were gravel...and being behind a rig with gravel spitting at you and unable to see from the dust was intense.
I couldn't see a thing!

We ran into a few of these
and had to wait...might
as well stretch the legs.
About 1.5 mile before our next stop, we had to wait until the pilot truck came and got us.  We were tired and ready to get out of the car.  The lodge was beautiful and we got the cat and dogs settled and ate in the lodge.  I had a salad, Jeff and some dumpling dish, a couple of beers, a sprite, and a pie later we didn't get out of there below $80.  WTH?!?!  It takes a lot to get the food out there.

Constant construction

The line started to get long

Taking the dogs out for a break
while we wait

The scenery was beautiful, but again we were so exhausted that I don't think we could fully appreciate it.

Needless to say, we are anxious to get off this highway!  Stay tuned...two more days in the Alaskan HWY.

I though this sign was funny...too many
days in a car will do that to your
sense of humor...

Beautiful scenery

Lonesome Pine

Another self portrait opportunity

Hey, we were bored...

We got tired so Miles got to drive

Be Blessed-

I know that some of my thoughts may create passionate feelings. I do appreciate passion and I welcome it; however, please do not be rude. These are only my thoughts...
